Taiwan to relax quarantine rules for recovering from COVID-19

The compulsory health monitoring regime after the COVID-19 quarantine is about to be canceled by the island’s main epidemiology center (CECC), Taiwan News reported on October 25.

From November 7, the 7 + 7 rule, which meant a seven-day quarantine and the next seven days of health monitoring, will cease to apply for those who have recovered from COVID-19. Now, after seven days of quarantine, in the case of a negative test for COVID-19, people will no longer need to conduct mandatory monitoring of their own condition.

In case of a positive test, seven days of monitoring remain mandatory.

Recall that on October 25, 39,148 cases of COVID-19 infection were registered on the island. The population of the island is 23.19 million people.

In the spring of 2022, Taiwan adopted a strategy called the New Taiwan Model. It involves the rejection of the complete suppression of the disease. The strategy involves reducing the burden on medical facilities and returning the population to a more or less normal life.

The decision to adopt a new strategy is based on the fact that the new Omicron strain does not cause severe symptoms like the previous strains. In 99.7% of the reported cases, there were no symptoms at all, or they were minimal.
